ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, WENDY LOOKER
The Piedmont Chamber Singers will begin its 33rd season under the baton of newly appointed artistic director, Wendy Looker. A native of Western New York, Dr. Looker is the Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at Guilford College, where she teaches a variety of courses including Conducting and Music History. As Director of Choral Activities, Looker has been conducting the Guilford College Choir and Chamber Singers since 2003. Both choirs toured Ireland in May 2009, and the Chamber Singers are scheduled to sing at the 2010 NC-ACDA conference in September. Dr. Looker holds the Doctor of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the Master of Music degree in Conducting from the University of Michigan, and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance from the State University of New York College at Geneseo. She has served as a guest clinician for Guilford County All-County Choruses and is presently the NC-ACDA Repertoire & Standards Chair for Multicultural Perspectives. She is a member of ACDA, NCCO, Chorus America, and the College Music Society. An avid singer, Looker performed with the Bel Canto Company from 2004-2006 and has most recently sung with and directed the Greensboro-based early music vocal ensemble, The Kensington Consort. Dr. Looker resides in Kernersville with her husband Jeremy Truhel and their two-year-old daughter, Madeleine. |
